I grew up going to the theatre. My first ever West End show, at the tender age of (about) 8, was Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, starring my TV crush, Phillip Schofield. Don’t judge me; I had my reasons.

So as a lifelong fan, I’ve always tried to get to the theatre as often as I can. Living close to London has obviously made this easier, but I’m lucky enough to be in close proximity to some fantastic local theatres as well – the Orchard in Dartford, the Marlowe in Canterbury and the Churchill in Bromley to name a few.

In late 2014, I was given the opportunity to join the blogging team for London Theatre Direct, which involved a combination of reviewing and general musings about theatre, primarily focusing on the West End.

Not long after that, I started reviewing for London Theatre 1; as the name suggests, this also covers London theatre, but focuses more on fringe productions.

With all this writing about theatre, I decided it was about time I had a blog exclusively devoted to it, and so Theatre Things was born in the summer of 2015. Since then, the site and its following have grown more than I ever imagined. I’ve been lucky enough to attend shows all over London and beyond, and not only have I discovered some great theatres that I never knew existed; I’ve also seen some brilliant productions by incredibly talented companies. As a reviewer, while honesty is obviously essential, I tend to always try and aim for constructive positivity, particularly when it’s a fringe production that may still be in development.

I don’t come from a theatre or performance background (unless you count a couple of nativity plays at school and that one time I let a colleague film me singing Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes in Welsh), so all my reviews are written not as a critic but simply as a member of the audience, who loves theatre and wants to support it.

Now with a small team of guest reviewers on board, Theatre Things also publishes regular interviews with companies, directors, writers and actors. If you’d like to chat to us about your show, get in touch!
